Meeting the Needs of the Community

Hope Cafe grew out of our first Thrive community in direct response to a very real challenge our members faced. Working with university students in Katutura, we quickly learned how difficult it can be to study and excel in your school work in a place where internet access is expensive and can be difficult to come by. The idea was simple, we had internet in our office and could simply share that access with students. In 2014, Hope Cafe began by inviting students and other Thrive community members to the 3 Measures office. Twice a week we would push our office furniture to one side of the room & do our best to make the other side resemble a cafe. Once we added some coffee and we had something special.

While meeting the students’ need for internet, the cafe met another need as well… a fun and safe place to build community. Over the years that followed Hope Cafe would help those who made up our Thrive communities build deeper and more meaningful relationships. There have been countless hours of laughing, sharing stories, playing games & encouragement given.

In 2017 we were given a new room about twice the size of our previous space & one that could be fully dedicated to the cafe. Our Thrive members contributed money, supplies & time to renovate the space and we opened the new Hope Cafe in June that year!
