His Purpose & Steadfast Love

“His Purpose & Steadfast Love”

“The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands.” Psalm 138:8 (ESV) What an eventful year! Early in 2021 it was clear we had our work cut out for us. We would need to fully develop and implemented our exit strategy and prepare 3 Measures to become a truly Namibian-owned ministry.

Soup Delivery

Soup Delivery

Our freezer is full of soup and we’re delivering meals for those who are sick and isolating at home. We’re hoping to bring a little nutrition and encouragement in a difficult situation. Please pray with us for those who are recovering and for their families. Isolating from family is not always easy, especially when there are a lot of people living in the house.

Namibia is in crisis, you can help!

As Namibia fights through its deadliest wave of COVID-19, 3 Measures is providing relief in three ways:

  • - Providing meals for healthcare workers and business for local restaurants.
  • - Supporting at home medical care.
  • - Giving practical care to those isolating at home.

We've set up a gofundme to specifically address these urgent needs, will you consider helping?

UPDATE: PPE packs to those who need it

With the donations we’ve received so far, we have already packaged 50 PPE packs for people caring for loved ones at home and off duty nurses caring for people in their communities. We have also secured 2 oxygen cylinders and one CPAP machine! This is all part of the “At Home Care” part of this campaign. I’ll post updates soon on the other projects!

Help with COVID Relief in Namibia

Namibia is in Crisis, you can help!

Our country is in crisis. A third wave of COVID-19 has hit harder than we have previously seen and our healthcare systems are overwhelmed. With hospitals full, a shortage of beds in the ICU's and crucial equipment (and oxygen) becoming scarce, we have been seeking ways that 3 Measures can get involved.

A number of you have asked how you can help, so we are setting up this gofundme as a way for you to get directly involved. We will use the donations for the following three programs:

Donate a Meal Program (Serving our Health Care Workers and Local Businesses)

3 Measures is partnering with NedBank and Lithon Foundation here in Windhoek to provide restaurant meals for health care workers in the COVID units at Katutura State Hospital and in the state COVID clinic.

Working long hours in highly stressful conditions and dealing with death on a daily basis is leaving our frontline workers feeling exhausted and highly discouraged. Many find it very difficult to find time for a meal.

A good meal can provide the nutrition needed to make it through the day, while also providing a pick-me-up along the way. In addition to serving the health care workers, we are also partnering with local restaurants to provide these meals at a low cost. In doing so, we can help those restaurants survive through our latest lockdown. Restaurants are only allowed to serve takeaway at the moment.

Nedbank has generously offered to buy meals to start us off and is helping us raise more funds locally to keep it going through this wave. The more meals donated by individuals here and from people like you, the more frequently we will be able to provide these meals and the more restaurants we can help.

Home Medical Care (Serving the Sick)

With our hospitals full, it has become critical for COVID patients to get good care at home. A local doctor and her husband have been a part of the 3 Measures team for the last several years, with the doctor primarily assisting in our Young & Pregnant programs and First Aid initiatives. She has spent the last several months committed to treating COVID patients, mainly taking the approach of home care, monitoring and making sure that those who need it get to the hospital in time. She is working around the clock, providing invaluable care for her patients. Unfortunately, limitations in equipment is an ever-present concern.

In order to help her better serve her patients and keep more Namibians out of the hospitals, we are seeking donations for the purchase and rental of critical medical equipment, including oxygen concentrators, CPAP machines, oxygen cylinders, oxygen masks/hoses and PPE. Additionally, donations can be used to provide medicine for patients who cannot afford it.

Practical Home Care (Serving COVID Patients in Isolation)

Families and individuals throughout our city are isolating at home as they recover from COVID-19. Many are on their own or are isolating along with those who would normally care for them. As a practical response to this we have been delivering groceries and pulse oximeters to patients at home. This week Sandy is also making soup from our kitchen and we will be delivering it to people who are sick and isolating.

Make the Most

“Make the Most”

Paul instructed the Colossians to “make the most of every opportunity” (Col 4:5). Over the past fifteen months I feel our mission has been to be good stewards of the opportunities that have come our way. It has not been easy or predictable, but God is good and we find our peace in that.

COVID Crisis in Namibia

COVID Crisis in Namibia

Please pray for Namibia, the pandemic crisis has reached new heights here. While much of the world is beginning to move into a post-pandemic reality, Namibia is getting hit hard for the first time. Our numbers are among the highest in the world (per capita) and our medical systems are overwhelmed. Our hospitals are full, there is a shortage of oxygen and critical care equipment and the morgues are operating beyond capacity. As a result, people are unable to get the treatment they need and our death rates are unusually high.

Right now more than fifty people we know are COVID positive and we have lost three in the past week. One was one of our Thriver’s grandmother and the other two were from our church. We have two other close friends who lost family members this week and we still have one from our church in ICU. COVID is currently running rampant in every circle of relationships we have.

In response, the government is locking us down again. Schools are closed, curfew is in effect, gatherings of ten or more are banned and no one is allowed to move in or out of our city. Our programs are temporarily suspended again, and everyone is being asked to stay home.

Please pray for our country, it is heart-breaking to see such devastation. Here is a list of things you can pray for:

  • Ask God to direct us in the ministry we do and to help us find ways to bring comfort to those who are sick or grieving.
  • Safety for our family during this crisis.
  • Success of our meal program for health care workers (see June newsletter for details).
  • Recovery for those who are sick.
  • For the current wave’s high infection rates to decrease.
  • For our healthcare system as it is overwhelmed and the frontline workers who are exhausted.
  • Wisdom for our government in leading us through.
  • For our government to be able to obtain the vaccinations we need.

Thanks for your prayers!

Unprecedented

Well, we didn’t see that coming. Twenty-twenty was something we never could have predicted, and it certainly did not proceed according to our expectations. January and February’s early promise of baptisms, thriving programs and a campaign for our own building quickly gave way to lockdowns, curfews and quarantines. Rather than the year of expansion we anticipated; we found a year of continuously adjusting to new challenges and a different focus altogether.

Relief

“Relief”

What does a ministry with an emphasis on physical, social and spiritual development do when faced with a global crisis? Well, a short term change of emphasis becomes necessary. Development is walking with people over time with the goal of helping a person or community improve their baseline situation to something better. This is accomplished not by doing things for people, but with them. This is central to our ministry as 3 Measures, however, in the midst of a crisis our communities are no longer at their baseline.

Prayer Requests June 2020

By: David Echols

Please pray for:

  • COVID-19 in Namibia. As numbers rapidly increase in our country, community spread is currently restricted to one region. Pray for containment as well as for those locked down in the Erongo region. Pray for protection, especially in underprivileged areas where it is likely to be most dangerous. Our neighborhood in Katutura has one of the highest concentrations of HIV and Tuberculosis in the world making it a very high risk community.
  • Pray for us at 3 Measures to know how to best respond to this crisis. Pray that we might be able to provide relief where needed & have wisdom for each day.
  • Health for the Echols. We need to avoid government quarantine for the sake of the kids. Also, pray for Sandy as we try to get some answers about recent health concerns.
  • Reese has been talking about committing himself to Christ, pray for direction as we prepare him for this great decision!
  • Future plans for 3 Measures.

Treasure, Focus, Trust

“Treasure, Focus, Trust”

Like most of the world, Namibia is on lock down. Apart from essential workers, no one is permitted to leave their homes except for groceries and medical needs. On Sundays we’ve been holding Bible studies over WhatsApp and have had a surprisingly good time “together.” We read from Matthew 6 and were all challenged by Jesus’ words during this strange time.
